BEAVER LAKE – Cornerstone Bank officials used golden shovels to celebrate a shiny moment in the company’s history Friday afternoon in Beaver Lake.

Business representatives and local dignitaries gathered at the intersection of Rock Bluff Road and 2nd Avenue for a groundbreaking ceremony of the bank’s newest location. The company has begun construction on a full-service bank that will be 6,500 square feet in size. The new facility will join Cornerstone Bank’s current location in downtown Murray.

Russ Henning, vice president and manager of the bank’s Murray branch, said he was thrilled about the expansion into Beaver Lake. He said he felt the new structure would provide Cass County customers with more options and services for both banking and insurance needs. The building is scheduled to be open to the public in February 2019.

“We’re obviously very excited about this,” Henning told the crowd. “We’ve owned this property for 20 years with the idea that hopefully one day we could expand here, and now it’s happening. It’s great to see this dream come true.”

Cornerstone Bank Chief Executive Officer Kris Holoch said the existing location in Murray would remain open in the future. All current employees will remain with the company. Holoch said the Beaver Lake branch would provide more job opportunities to local residents.

“We’re really excited to be in this part of Nebraska, and we’re very excited about the future of Beaver Lake and the surrounding area,” Holoch said. “We’re going to be investing in this community. We’re going to be hiring more people for the new location and will be keeping the current facility in Murray open. We’re all thrilled to be here.”

The new Beaver Lake branch will provide both walk-in and drive-through capabilities for customers. There will be a drive-through ATM on the property, and there will be a large amount of indoor office space for banking and insurance services.

Cornerstone Bank is owned by First York BanCorp of York and has assets of $1.6 billion. There are 40 banking offices and 15 insurance agencies located throughout Nebraska. The majority of Cornerstone Bank’s branches are in smaller communities in the central portion of the state.
