PLATTSMOUTH – The Journal Sports Editor and Assistant Editor Brent Hardin became Journal Managing Editor on Monday. Hardin is assuming managerial duties from Patti Jo Peterson, who stepped down from the newspaper on Friday, April 6. Peterson had been managing editor at The Journal for the past 15 years.
Hardin will be responsible for all editorial content in the weekly print edition and daily online edition of The Journal. This will include news, features, education and sports. He will also be responsible for editorial content in the weekly Consumer Connection shopper.
“I’m looking forward to helping our products remain a vibrant part of all of our Cass County communities,” Hardin said. “The local area is a great place to live and work, and I’m excited to be able to make this transition at the newspaper.”
Hardin has been sports editor at The Journal since October 2005. He said he was thrilled to keep his current sports and education coverage duties with the newspaper. The Journal’s coverage area includes the school districts of Conestoga, Elmwood-Murdock, Louisville, Plattsmouth and Weeping Water.
“It was very important to me to be able to keep covering all of the students here in Cass County,” Hardin said. “It’s been a lot of fun to be able to meet so many good students, coaches and teachers at all of the local schools. I didn’t want to see those types of relationships end, so I’m very happy to have a chance to remain on the sports and education beats.”
Pages in both The Journal and Consumer Connection will continue to be designed by Lee Enterprises employees at a regional design center in Munster, Ind. Contact information for obituaries, legals and classifieds will also remain the same. Obituaries can be submitted to PLAObits@lee.net and legals can be submitted to PLALegals@lee.net. Classified ads can be submitted to PLAClassifieds@lee.net.
The Journal will continue to have open office hours three days each week. Office hours will be 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.
The Journal will be hiring a general assignment reporter in the near future. The new reporter will assist Hardin with news coverage, special projects and other assignments.
