PLATTSMOUTH – Susan Lorence, a telecommunications analyst and active community member from Plattsmouth, has announced her bid for election to the Legislature, District 2.

“I am running for the legislature because I care about the people of our community and I want to do all I can to ensure opportunity and prosperity for both now and into the future,” Lorence said. “My husband and I have been active in Plattsmouth, our church and community in many ways for more than 20 years.”

Lorence’s platform includes serving all citizens in Cass County on a wide scale.

“As a state senator, I will focus that energy to serve on a broader level with additional impact,” she said. “As a parent, I want to ensure Nebraska is always a place where quality education, access to healthcare and job security are not just talking points, but a reality for every family living here.”

Fiscal responsibility is also key to her campaign.

“I believe smart budgeting, real tax relief for middle class families and better opportunities for people working hard, are key to the good life that all Nebraska families deserve. That is what I will work toward every day in the Nebraska Legislature,” Lorence said.

Lorence has been active in the Plattsmouth community for many years.

“My community involvement, as well as the work I’ve done in my professional career and as a wife, mother and friend has well-prepared me to represent the hard-working people of District 2 with unwavering commitment to do what is best for families, our communities, and our local businesses in the state legislature,” she said.

Lorence is a member of St. James United Methodist Church and the Plattsmouth Lions Club. She also serves on the Plattsmouth Community Foundation Fund board of directors as treasurer. The organization successfully awards grant funds to many important community projects including Plattsmouth Middle School PTO Outdoor Classroom, Cass County Historical Society, Plattsmouth Public Library Foundation, Plattsmouth Police Department and dozens of other organizations in District 2.

Lorence, a graduate of the University of Denver, has worked in the telecommunications industry since 1978 and is currently Lead Process Analyst. Susan and her husband of 30 years, Ray Newton, have one daughter, Laura, who is a student at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Lorence will be holding a Campaign Kick-off Event 5:30-7 p.m. Wednesday, March 28, in Legislative District 2, at the VFW Post 2543, 510 First Ave., Plattsmouth.
