The 70-year-old body of Sandra Root of South Bend was recovered in the Platte River near her home Friday afternoon.
Cass County Attorney Colin Palm has ordered an autopsy to determine the cause of her death. Root’s family members reported her missing March 4.
Assisting in the search were the sheriff’s office, Nebraska State Patrol (NSP), Nebraska Game and Parks, Life Flight Medical Helicopter, Cass County Emergency Management and the Yutan Water Rescue Team
“The following Monday, March 5, Cass County Sheriff’s Office deputies walked the area along with family members as the NSP helicopter flew over the area,” reads a press release from the sheriff’s office.
High winds and snow hampered the search Monday and Tuesday but the search continued.
“On Friday afternoon the Life Flight helicopter came down and flew over the area again. Family members spotted a body after 4 p.m. March 9. The Yutan Water Rescue Team was called and was able to retrieve the body, which was positively identified as Sandra Root,” the release states.
