MANLEY – Winter weather caused a personal-injury accident involving a teenager Saturday night near Manley.
Weeping Water Fire and Rescue, Manley Fire, Cass County Emergency Management Agency paramedics and Cass County Sheriff’s Office deputies all responded to the scene at 7:55 p.m. They discovered an accident had taken place on Highway 50 just south of McKelvie Road.
Deputies said Syracuse resident Grant Hallstrom, 18, was driving northbound on Highway 50 in a beige 2004 GMC Sierra. His vehicle encountered a patch of ice and went out of control. Deputies said Hallstrom’s vehicle then went into the southbound lane. The vehicle rolled three times and landed in an embankment along the road.
CCEMA paramedics checked Hallstrom for injuries at the scene. A private vehicle took him to Community Memorial Hospital in Syracuse. Deputies said a passenger in the vehicle was not injured in the accident.
A winter storm was passing through Cass County at the time of the incident. The storm system caused snow and freezing rain to develop throughout the evening.
