A head-on collision early morning Sunday on U.S. Highway 75 near Murray claimed the lives two men.
Dion Higgins, 43, of Nebraska City, and Efrain Soto, 21, of Omaha, were declared dead at the scene after Cass County Sheriff Office deputies and Murray Fire and Rescue responded to the two-vehicle accident at 5:31 a.m. July 14.
The accident occurred when a black 2003 Nissan Maxima driven by Soto and traveling south crossed the center line and collided head on with a 2012 Chevrolet Avalanche traveling north on Highway 75 and driven by Higgins.
Following the collision, Higgins’ vehicle landed in the east ditch and caught on fire. Soto’s vehicle came to a stop in the middle of the roadway on Highway 75.
Highway 75 was shut down for seven hours while the deputies along with the CRASH Team reconstructed the accident.
The accident is still under investigation.
Higgins was the owner-operator of Nebraska City Chiropractic LLC. Higgins immediate family includes wife, Stacie, and two daughters.
Nothing was known about Soto at the time the article was published.
