WEEPING WATER – Weeping Water students, teachers and community members kicked off Homecoming Week Sunday night with many celebratory activities.

Weeping Water residents gathered at Memorial Field for an evening that began with the Homecoming coronation ceremony. High school students from all four classes gathered on the football field and walked up to the bleachers as their biographies were read over a loudspeaker.

Grace Cave and Trey Lamkins were freshman representatives and Jessie Jordan and Tyge Thomas were sophomore representatives. Brianna Lawson and Shayden Jones represented the junior class.

Weeping Water seniors Brogan McDonald, Sammy Thomas and Katrina Thomassen were Homecoming Queen candidates, and Noah May, Michael Stackpole and Kyle West were Homecoming King candidates. McDonald was selected as Homecoming Queen and Stackpole was selected as Homecoming King.

Students continued the night with several football games. They followed a format similar to ultimate frisbee where they had to advance the ball upfield by passing it to teammates. Seniors played freshmen and juniors played sophomores in the first round, and the second round consisted of matchups between upperclassmen and underclassmen. All students then watched a bonfire on the softball field.

Weeping Water will play Friend in the Homecoming football game at 7 p.m. Friday. Parents and football athletes will be recognized prior to the game at 6:45 p.m. Parents and cross country athletes will be recognized at halftime.
