There’s an old adage that says, “The more things change, the more they stay the same.”

And while the phrase seems contradictory there is a ring of truth in what it means.

Since 1881, The Plattsmouth Journal has been committed to providing the best local news possible, and that has not changed and will not change. Our staff will continue its commitment to sharing the stories of your friends, neighbors and businesses as it has done in the past.

But the news industry has quickly changed over the past 10 years with the introduction of social media and instant news on the web. You can find almost anything on the web, including fake news.

While retaining high ethical standards, Plattsmouth Journal has changed with the times, adding its website –—a decade ago and establishing a well-visited Facebook page.

It must continue, however, to meet the ever-changing demands of its readers and fiscal responsibilities.

To do so, we are changing our office hours to 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.

We know this may put a constraint on those who want to stop in to visit with the editorial staff or place an advertisement with Cassidy Ellison, our marketing coordinator.

We hope our patrons can work with us during these hours so we can continue to offer our services to them in a timely manner.

We have also eliminated one staff position held for 17 years by Jill Bedell, who oversaw classified advertisements, obituary notices, commercial printing, legal notices and graphic design.

People wishing to post classified advertisements such as a for rent ad, garage sale notice or item for sale notice are asked to email or stop in during our open hours to place a classified with staff.

Classified ads are those with just a few lines printed toward the back of our weekly issue. They generally deal with offers of or requests for jobs, houses, apartments, used cars, and the like.

All marketing print, digital and inserts will continue to be handled through Cassidy. Cassidy will also be available normal business hours Monday through Friday to work with you.

For people needing to make copies, we ask that you come during our open hours to do so.

While The Journal will still be handling large commercial print orders, we will be reviewing this process and how we can best fit it into our work schedule to ensure mass copies can be made in a timely manner for you and for our staff members.

Of course, The Journal’s sports editor and assistant editor, Brent Hardin, and I will continue gathering news from our coverage area. We will gladly schedule interviews at the office that pertain to our news stories and photos.
