Conestoga basketball

PAWNEE CITY – The Conestoga girls made the hoop appear as large as the Atlantic Ocean on Saturday with a prolific scoring attack against Pawnee City.

The Cougars shot 54 percent from the field in their 60-20 road victory. Conestoga went 22-of-41 from the field and registered an 11-of-22 effort from 3-point range. The Cougars posted a season-best point total and won their ninth straight game.

CHS (9-2) jumped out to a 20-4 lead over Pawnee City (3-10) and never relinquished control. The team went on a 17-4 run in the second quarter and built the lead to 49-17 after three periods.

Conestoga found holes in Pawnee City’s defense with accurate passing. Seven players generated assists from both the post and perimeter positions. The team ended the day with 18 assists.

Autumn Hardesty helped the Cougars with ten points, six assists, five rebounds and two steals. Sierra Kile produced 18 points, four assists, three rebounds, two steals and one block, and Gloria Izquierdo collected 15 points, six steals and three assists. Courtney Wagner chipped in two points, eight rebounds and one assist for Conestoga.

Anna Raisanen poured in eight points, three rebounds and one assist and Sophia Svanda tallied two points and two assists. Keely Gabehart scored three points, Maddy Schwindt hauled in four boards and Alexa Vogler had two points, two steals, two boards and one assist. Ellie Sachs added a pair of rebounds for the Cougars.
