MURDOCK – The Elmwood-Murdock boys jumped ahead of Lincoln Lutheran in their home gym with several early baskets.
The Knights turned that head start into a large victory over the Warriors.
Elmwood-Murdock relied on steady offense to secure a 50-26 triumph Tuesday night. The team scored in double digits in all four quarters and shot 41 percent from the field (21-of-51) in the game.
Carter Bornemeier and Zach Rust started E-M’s scoring attack with consecutive 3-pointers in the first four minutes. Austin Meisinger’s basket late in the first quarter stretched the lead to 11-3, and Caleb Marlatt created a 15-3 margin with a pair of second-quarter shots. Wes Dreamer then ended the half with eight consecutive points against LLHS (6-6).
Elmwood-Murdock (10-1) continued to expand the lead after the break. Bornemeier gave the Knights a 33-14 edge with a 3-pointer midway through the third period. A 3-pointer from Rust then let E-M double up Lincoln Lutheran 44-22 in the fourth quarter.
Dreamer ended the game with a double-double effort of 23 points, 12 rebounds and seven steals. Rust produced 11 points, three assists and two boards, and Bornemeier secured eight points, five rebounds, two assists and one steal. Marlatt finished the night with four points, seven rebounds and one steal.
Nolan Langfeldt dished out seven assists and added three rebounds and one steal. Austin Meisinger tallied two points and two assists, Massimo Lojing posted two assists and one board and Andy Meyer scored two points. Noah Willey made one assist and Cole Cooper had one steal.
Elmwood-Murdock is scheduled to continue its homestand Friday evening. The Knights will host Conestoga at approximately 7:30 p.m.
