NEBRASKA CITY – Elmwood-Murdock athletes used their work on the basketball court to book winning trips to Nebraska City Lourdes on Saturday afternoon.
Elmwood-Murdock girls 48, Nebraska City Lourdes 36
Elmwood-Murdock wore down Nebraska City Lourdes with a consistent offense. The Knights took a six-point lead after one quarter and maintained that gap through the next two periods. The team ensured the victory with a 14-9 run in the final eight minutes.
E-M shot 38 percent from the floor (19-of-50) and outrebounded NCL 26-23. The team’s defense limited Nebraska City Lourdes to 25-percent shooting from the floor and a 5-of-20 effort from 3-point range.
Danielle Neels guided the Knights with 21 points and nine rebounds. Five of her boards came on the offensive glass. Lauren Justesen collected ten points and seven rebounds and Steph Wenzel tallied eight points and six boards.
Sydney Kunz produced six points and one rebound and Alyssa Closner pitched in three points. Paige Mortimer hauled in two rebounds and Kylee Synovec made one rebound.

Elmwood-Murdock boys 79, Parkview Christian 61
Elmwood-Murdock came out on top of a roller-coaster tournament game against Parkview Christian. The Knights saw PCHS nearly erase a 40-28 halftime deficit with a 23-point outburst in the third quarter. Elmwood-Murdock responded to the threat with effective offense in the fourth quarter. The team outscored Parkview Christian 27-10 in the stretch.
The Knights shot 61 percent from the floor in the game (31-of-51) and nailed 80 percent of their free throws (12-of-15). The team made 21 assists and enjoyed a big advantage on the glass. Elmwood-Murdock outrebounded PCHS 34-18 and limited the Patriots to just five offensive boards.
Wes Dreamer produced a double-double effort of 42 points and 11 rebounds. He added two blocks, one steal and one assist in his 28 minutes on the court. Dreamer sank 17 field goals and seven free throws.
Caleb Marlatt generated 13 points, six rebounds and two assists, and Nolan Langfeldt finished with two points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals. Carter Bornemeier pitched in eight points, five assists, three rebounds and one steal.
Massimo Lojing tallied seven points, three assists, three boards and one steal, and Austin Meisinger had five points, three assists, three rebounds and one steal. Cole Cooper added two points, three assists, three rebounds and one block for the Knights.
