MURDOCK – The Elmwood-Murdock girls had generated productive performances on offense during their recent four-game winning streak.
Lincoln Lutheran defenders interrupted that pattern with a lockdown effort against the Knights on Tuesday.
Lincoln Lutheran held E-M to ten field goals and two free throws in a 55-28 triumph. The Warriors (10-2) won their ninth straight game and maintained their strong defensive identity. LLHS held an opponent under the 45-point barrier for the ninth consecutive time.
Lincoln Lutheran broke away from Elmwood-Murdock (8-5) during the second quarter. The Warriors converted several turnovers into points and built a 23-9 halftime edge. The team then short-circuited E-M’s comeback attempt with a 17-3 run in the fourth quarter.
LLHS used a perimeter-based attack to reach the 55-point mark for the fifth straight game. The team finished 21-of-57 from the floor and went 9-of-28 from 3-point range. The Warriors grabbed 12 offensive boards and enjoyed a 26-23 advantage in the rebounding department.
Danielle Neels produced ten points, seven rebounds, two assists, two blocks and one steal for Elmwood-Murdock. Steph Wenzel posted nine points, two assists and two steals, and Sydney Kunz tallied three points, three rebounds, one assist and one steal.
Lauren Justesen generated seven rebounds and two assists and Paige Mortimer contributed three points, two boards and one assist. Sydney Anderson had three points and two rebounds and Jayden Halferty and Kylee Synovec each hauled in one rebound.
Elmwood-Murdock will return to its home court Friday night for a conference matchup with Conestoga (9-2). The Knights and Cougars are scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
