Four Cass County volleyball programs opened the East Central Nebraska Conference Tournament on Monday with matches at three league schools.
Louisville 3, Johnson County Central 0
Seventh-seeded Louisville defeated tenth-seeded JCC 25-5, 25-23, 25-9 in a first-round match held at Malcolm. The Lions collected a .325 team hitting percentage and reeled off 13 aces against the Thunderbirds.
Avery Heard helped LHS with 15 kills on 29 swings. She went 17-of-18 serving with four aces and made five digs. Cassidy Niemoth finished 18-of-19 serving with five aces. She added three kills and ten digs to the team’s cause.
Jade Biesterfeld collected eight kills and three digs and Faye Jacobsen went 10-of-10 serving with one ace. Jacobsen added five kills and four digs during the match. Olivia Zahn produced 23 assists, one kill and three digs, and McKenzie Norris carded three aces in her 15-of-16 serving effort. Norris also made seven digs and six assists. Skyler Pollock and Maddy Nolte both saw court time for the team.
Malcolm 3, Louisville 0
Second-seeded Malcolm posted a 25-10, 25-9, 25-10 victory over the Lions in the second match of the evening. Malcolm’s defense limited LHS to two aces and eight kills in the contest.
Heard produced six kills, Jacobsen tallied two kills and two digs and Zahn had eight assists and one dig. Niemoth made one ace and two digs and Norris had one ace and one dig. Biesterfeld, Pollock and Emma Hiatt all saw court time for the Lions.
Louisville will play in the Silver Division of the tournament Thursday. All Silver Division matches will take place at Palmyra High School. Palmyra will play Yutan at 5 p.m. and Louisville will take on Elmwood-Murdock at approximately 6 p.m. The consolation match will be at approximately 7 p.m. and the Silver Division title match will start at approximately 8 p.m.
Yutan 3, Weeping Water 0
Ninth-seeded Weeping Water traveled to Mead to take on eighth-seeded Yutan in the first round. Yutan stopped the Indians 25-14, 25-18, 25-16.
Weeping Water will host the tournament’s Bronze Division triangular Thursday. WWHS will take on Johnson County Central at 5 p.m. in the Weeping Water Activities Center. Conestoga will face JCC at approximately 6 p.m. and Weeping Water and Conestoga will play at approximately 7 p.m.
Elmwood-Murdock 3, Conestoga 0
Sixth-seeded Elmwood-Murdock collected a 25-14, 25-19, 25-17 victory over 11th-seeded Conestoga. The Knights and Cougars played the first-round match at Freeman.
Conestoga will play in the Bronze Division triangular on Thursday at Weeping Water. CHS will play Johnson County Central at approximately 6 p.m. and Weeping Water at approximately 7 p.m.
Freeman 3, Elmwood-Murdock 0
Second-seeded Freeman posted a 25-11, 25-19, 25-23 triumph over Elmwood-Murdock in the evening’s second match.
The Knights will play a pair of Silver Division matches at Palmyra on Thursday. E-M will face Louisville at approximately 6 p.m. The consolation match will start at approximately 7 p.m. and the Silver Division title match will begin at approximately 8 p.m.
