CONESTOGA – Louisville and Syracuse maintained balanced scales on the scoreboard throughout the first three quarters Friday night.
The Rockets tipped things in their favor with a heavy amount of points in the final period.
Syracuse edged the LHS boys 60-46 in the Subdistrict C1-2 Tournament title game at Conestoga High School. The Rockets used a 19-8 run in the final eight minutes to advance in the postseason. Syracuse (16-9) won its fifth game in a row and reached 60 points for the fourth time in that stretch.
The teams traded baskets throughout the opening half. Alec Terry helped Louisville with several 3-pointers in the first quarter, and Syracuse used multiple offensive rebounds and putbacks to stay in the game. The Rockets led 17-16 after one quarter and maintained a 27-26 edge at the break.
Syracuse increased the gap to 41-38 after three periods and pulled away after that. The team used a combination of baskets and free throws to keep Louisville from making a comeback. The Rockets finished 16-of-23 from the stripe in the game.
Wil McCoy led Syracuse’s scoring attack with 20 points. Ben Nannen finished with 14 points and 11 rebounds and Jackson Zastera tallied nine points and 12 boards. Trevor Brinkman added 13 points and four assists.
Game statistics for Louisville were not available. The Lions finished their season with a 14-12 mark. Hunter Klein, Chase Cosgrove, Jared Hrabik and Terry were the team’s four seniors.
