LOUISVILLE – The Louisville girls used a balanced scoring attack to bottle up Fort Calhoun Tuesday night.

Five Lions generated seven or more points in a 58-31 triumph. Avery Heard (13), Maia Johnson (12) and Jordan Winkler (10) all reached double figures in the home game, and Julie Katz and Lauryn Kalkowski each gave the Lions seven points. Meagan Mackling, Olivia Zahn, Cassidy Niemoth and McKenzie Norris also filled their names in the team’s scoring column.

Louisville (10-4) grabbed the game’s momentum in the opening few minutes. The squad produced multiple baskets off turnovers and built a 19-10 lead. The Lions stretched the gap to 32-16 at halftime and made it a 46-22 margin after three quarters.

Louisville kept Fort Calhoun (1-10) off balance with aggressive defense. The Lions forced 28 turnovers and ended the evening with 16 steals. LHS deflected 11 other passes and blocked three Fort Calhoun shot attempts.

Louisville and Fort Calhoun both played disciplined defense during the game. LHS committed just seven fouls and the Pioneers ended the evening with ten fouls. Louisville finished 6-of-11 at the free-throw line and Fort Calhoun went 3-of-4.

Heard helped the Lions with ten rebounds, three steals, two assists, two blocks and one pass deflection. Johnson posted four rebounds, two steals and one assist, Winkler tallied four assists and four steals and Katz had two boards, two assists and one steal. Kalkowski poured in two rebounds and two assists for the Lions.

Mackling finished with four points, five rebounds, five assists, four steals and three pass deflections. Zahn collected two points and two rebounds, Niemoth had two points and one board and Norris posted one point, two steals, one assist and one rebound. Faye Jacobsen produced three rebounds and one assist and Juliette Andrews and Skyler Pollock each grabbed one rebound.
