PLATTSMOUTH – Norris senior Mike Wardy spent time after Friday night’s game with Plattsmouth being courted by several college scouts.
He spent his minutes on the court scoring multiple baskets against the Blue Devils.
Wardy posted a game-best 17 points in a 52-30 Norris victory. He headlined a scoring attack that featured baskets from eight Titans in the season opener. Tyler Ruhl and Harrison Boe combined for 19 points off the bench and starting guards Aidan Oerter, Skyler Schwaninger and Kixten Misko had 11 points.
Plattsmouth head coach Kevin Tilson said he felt the Blue Devils gained a great deal from the performance. PHS rallied within 34-26 in the third quarter before Norris regained a double-digit cushion. Eleven Plattsmouth athletes saw court time and six students entered the scoring column.
“We learned that our kids are going to play hard on the court this year,” Tilson said. “I don’t think our effort is ever going to be a question mark for us. Based on what I saw tonight, our kids are going to give a solid effort every time out. That’s something that was very encouraging to see.”
Tilson said the team became more confident as the game went on. He said that would carry over into the rest of the dates on the school’s schedule.
“The kids weren’t happy after the game, but I think they were encouraged by how they measured up against a Norris team that has some pretty good players,” Tilson said. “There were spots in the game where we didn’t shoot the ball particularly well, but we were still able to stay in the game and keep it pretty competitive for three quarters. I think the guys are aware now that they have the ability to beat teams on our schedule.”
Luke Setlak generated ten points, two rebounds, two steals and one assist for the Blue Devils. Hunter Adkins produced five points, five rebounds and three blocks, and Tucker Anderson posted eight points, one assist and one steal.
Kaleb Church scored three points and made one steal, Charlie Knust tallied two points and three boards and Brandon Dilly collected two points. Draven Ray grabbed three rebounds, Carson Blecke had one rebound and Andrew Rathman chipped in one assist, one steal and one block. Kobe Cruse added one assist for the squad.
Plattsmouth will resume its season Friday with a 7:30 p.m. home game against Nebraska City. PHS will travel to Schuyler the next day for a 4:30 p.m. game.
