Dodge County authorities are searching for two individuals in connection with an attempted theft of an ATM from Platte Valley Bank in North Bend.

According to the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 4:16 a.m. Monday deputies were dispatched to the Platte Valley Bank at 606 N. Main St., in North Bend after two people attempted to steal the bank’s ATM machine.

At approximately 4 a.m., two unknown subjects pulled the ATM from the building using a tow rope attached to a pickup truck. The ATM machine has 24-hour access and is located inside of the building on the south side adjacent to U.S. Highway 30.

According to Platte Valley Bank Director Katy Bode, the attempted theft caused significant damage to the door on the bank’s vestibule as well as damage to the vestibule itself.

The two subjects, who were wearing hoodies pulled tight around their faces, were unable to load the ATM into the vehicle and left it lying outside the bank building. No money was removed from the ATM.

The subjects then left the scene in an unknown direction. The vehicle used in the attempted theft appears to be a dark blue or black Chevrolet 4x4 pickup truck.

During the initial investigation of the scene on Monday morning, Highway 30 west of Nebraska Highway 79 in North Bend was closed for three and a half hours. Douglas County CSI Unit assisted DCSO at the scene.

The incident is under investigation and anyone with information about the attempted theft is asked to call Dodge Count Sheriff’s Office Investigator Mike Ough at 402-727-2700 or message the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page.

Following the attempted theft, Platte Valley Bank was open for business on Monday and will continue to be open during regular business hours, according to Bode.

Bode also said that the bank will continue offering all regular services except ATM services until a new machine can be installed. She added that the bank has already ordered a new ATM machine and expects it to be installed within the next two weeks.

Until Platte Valley Bank can get the new ATM machine installed and running, Bode encouraged customers to use the Platte Valley Bank ATM machine located in the North Bend Mini-Mart at 340 E Sixth St.

This is the second time the Platte Valley Bank ATM Machine in North Bend has been targeted for theft in recent years as an attempted theft of the machine also took place in February 2017.

Video surveillance from the attempted theft in 2017 led the Dodge County Sheriff’s Department and Fremont Police Department to issue warrants for three individuals who were wanted for a string of more than a dozen robberies throughout Tulare County, California, and Nebraska including the armed robbery of Tienda Mexicana Guerrera in Fremont.
