Firefighters rescued a dozen people from a stalled elevator at Fremont's Lon D. Wright Power Plant late Tuesday morning.

Lt. Doug Backens of the Fremont Fire Department said nobody was hurt when the elevator stalled between the second and third floors.

Gary Ogden, fuel handling supervisor at the plant, said the occupants were contract workers who were stuck for less than half an hour.

The elevator stalled, he said, when a brake locked, preventing the car from moving up or down.

Backens said firefighters killed power to the elevator and were able to pry the doors open. The occupants then crawled out and descended on a step ladder to the second floor.
