Five First State Bank & Trust Co. employee promotions were approved at the recent annual meeting of the board of directors.

Those promoted include Ronda Niehaus to senior vice president-trust; Shelley Winter, senior vice president-operations and technology; Sandra Roemer, vice president-residential real estate lending; Cindy Slykhuis, vice president-marketing; and Elise Kubik, operations supervisor.

Niehaus has more than 20 years of banking experience. She was hired by First State in 2000 to establish the trust department, which has now grown to more than $62 million in assets. In 2011, she was named to the bank’s executive committee. Niehaus earned her bachelor of arts degree from Central College in Pella, Iowa, and holds the Certified Trust and Financial Advisor designation earned through the Institute of Certified Bankers.

Niehaus serves as vice president of the executive board for the Fremont Family YMCA and is on the Fremont Area Chamber of Commerce board and Fremont Public School Foundation. She is a member of the Fremont Rotary Club, Fremont Area Philanthropy Group and Fremont Tigers Athletic Booster Club. She is a graduate of Leadership Fremont and the 2010 Nebraska Bankers Association Leadership Class.

Niehaus and her husband, Todd, have three children, Connor, Kendall and Cade. They are members of First United Methodist Church.

Shelley Winter has been employed with First State for nearly 25 years. She started as a teller and over the years her responsibilities have grown to overseeing the operations of the bank. She will join the executive committee. Winter is on the Big Brothers Big Sisters board and treasurer of the Clarmar PTA. She is a past member of the Nebraska Bankers Association Operations Advisory Committee.

Winter and her husband, Patrick, have a son, Ryan. They are members of St. Timothy’s Church.

Sandra Roemer joined First State in 2001 as a mortgage loan processor and has more than 20 years of experience in lending and finance. Roemer is a frequent teacher of first time homebuyer classes for Fremont and the surrounding area.

Roemer is a member of the board and secretary for Three Rivers Housing Development Corp. serving Burt, Cuming, Dodge and Washington counties. She has two grown daughters and three grandchildren and belongs to Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hooper.

Cindy Slykhuis has been with First State for nine years. She oversees the marketing, advertising, public relations, First State Bank & Trust University and community involvement functions. She earned her bachelor of arts in business administration and communication from Nebraska Wesleyan University and her Certified Financial Marketing Professional designation from the American Institute of Bankers. She is a graduate of the American Banker’s Association School of Bank Marketing and Management.

Slykhuis is an active member of the Fremont Noon Kiwanis, vice-chair of the Fremont Area Chamber of Commerce Leadership Fremont program, on the fundraising committee for Rebuilding Together and publicity coordinator for the Fremont Alliance MOPS. She is a member of the American Bankers Association Marketing Network, the Nebraska Financial Education Coalition, Midland University Phi Beta Lambda Advisory Council and the YMCA membership and community relations committee. Slykhuis and her husband, Steve, and son, Winston, are members of First Lutheran Church.

Elise Kubik began work for First State in 2009 as a customer service representative and teller at the Walmart branch. A year later, she was promoted to e-commerce customer service representative where she served as lead contact for consumer and business Internet banking.

Kubik is a member of the Fremont Area Management Association. Kubik and her husband, Ryan, have one son, Brody.
