After holding its first Beams and Dreams talent show in April, the Fremont Area Habitat for Humanity is looking for a new crop of talented individuals to share their gifts on stage at next year’s event.
Local singers, dancers, musicians, comedians, magicians, ventriloquists, and the list goes on and on, are invited to audition for a chance to showcase their talent in front of hundreds of people while raising money that provides housings for local residents.
“We are looking for more than just singers, we really want a variety of performers,” Mary Glowacki, Habitat board member, said.
Along with the chance to share their talents, the winner of Beams & Dreams will receive $500.
Auditions for Beams and Dreams, which will again be held in April, will be held on Wednesday, October 18 from 5-9 p.m. at Milady Coffeehouse at 105 E 6th Street in downtown Fremont.
“They (Milady) already have a stage and microphone already there, and we thought that if performers felt comfortable auditioning in front of five people they won’t mind performing in front of 400,” Glowacki said.
The auditions are broken up into 15 minute timeslots, with each performer expected to show off their talent for around 5 minutes. The remaining time will be used by the panel of judges to ask questions before and after the performance.
The group of five judges is made up of the Habitat board Beams & Dreams committee, which includes Glowacki, Joy McKay, Emily Jones, Amy Cone, and Mandy Ostdiek.
McKay is the executive director of Habitat and Jones is the volunteer coordinator for the organization. Glowacki, Cone and Ostdiek all hold positions on the board.
“Some of the committee members actually have some talent and have judged dance competitions and have been involved in music themselves, so they know what to look for,” Glowacki said. “The rest of us don’t have talent, so we are just kind of along for the ride.”
Talented local residents who are interested in auditioning for Beams and Dreams, which has a grand prize of $500, can contact the Fremont Area Habitat for Humanity at their website www.fremonthabitat.org or call their office 402-721-8771.
Along with the audition at Milady, performers can also submit a video audition of their performance. Those who plan to submit a video audition are asked to send their name, phone number and a video of their talent to email@example.com.
Following the auditions, Habitat plans to select six talented individuals to perform at the Beams & Dreams event in April.
“We are shooting for five to six performers, because if we gobble up all the talent the first two years then we won’t have anything to pull from in following years,” Glowacki said.
