VALLEY -- Daryl W. Janssen, 72 years, of Mallard Landing at Valley passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Sunday, Nov. 12, 2017. Daryl was born Aug. 10, 1945, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Mervyn and Esther (Vogt) Janssen.
He was raised on a farm outside of Randolph. He attended and graduated from Randolph High School. He attended Milford Trade School for two years at Milford. He was drafted into the U.S. Army and served as a medic during the Vietnam War in Germany from June 15, 1966, to March 23, 1968. Daryl married Diane Pittack on June 5, 1971, in Foster. They resided at Fremont where he worked at Wayne Larson Chevrolet. He opened Janssen Repair in Fremont in 1975 and was the owner/operator there until the present.
He enjoyed bow hunting, fishing, golfing a lot, being around the water, and going to Arizona in the winter. Daryl loved being a grandpa and attending the activities that his grandchildren were involved in.
He is survived by his wife, Diane; daughters, Carrie (Shawn) Gilbert and Jodi (John) Kelly, all of Omaha; brother, Keith (Brenda) Janssen of Palmer; sister, Gloria Knapp of Madison; grandchildren, Hunter Albers, Rylie Albers, Clay Kelly, Kate Kelly, Lyla Kelly, and Claire Kelly; and sisters-in-laws, Jan (Steve) Peck and Marilyn (Dennis) Hoffman, all of Omaha, and Shelly (Jim) Workman of Norfolk; brothers-in-law, Mike (Cindy) Pittack of Fremont, and Gary (Helen) Pittack of Bell Buckle, Tennessee; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother-in-law, Adolph Knapp.
A memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 17, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Fremont. The Rev. Dr. Gary Werling will officiate. Family will receive friends Thursday, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Military Honors will be conducted at the Church. A Celebration of Life will follow the service at the Fremont County Club.
Memorials may be directed to the family for a memorial to be established in Daryl’s name.
