FREMONT — Lyle W. Martin, age 92, of Fremont died Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2017, at Nebraska Medicine in Omaha.
Lyle Martin was born on Dec. 19, 1924, at Walthill to Blake and Ruby (Underwood) Martin. He graduated from Macy High School in 1943. He joined the Navy in June of 1943 and served three years. After basic training he attended Aviation Ordinance School at Norman, Oklahoma. He served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater.
He married Joan Neill in 1947 at Herman. They moved to Fremont in 1956. He worked at Hormel Foods in Fremont from 1951 until his retirement in 1986.
Lyle was a member of First United Methodist Church in Fremont. He was a Webelo’s Leader and a Boy Scout Leader. Lyle belonged to the VFW Post 854 and the Eagles Aerie 200. He was an active member of the Fremont Honor Guard. Lyle enjoyed skiing and taught many young people how to ski throughout many years.
Lyle is survived by his wife, Joan; sons, Darryl (Karen) Martin of Boulder City, Nevada, and Rodney (Tamie) Martin of Littleton, Colorado; daughter, Linda (Steve) Dinges of Ceresco; sister, Cleta Bell of Waxahachie, Texas; eight grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Lyle was preceded in death by his parents; and four brothers, Durward, Melvin, Kenton and Leslie Martin
The funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, at First United Methodist Church in Fremont with Rev. Bill Gepford officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 5-7 p.m. at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Burial will be at Memorial Cemetery in Fremont with military honors by VFW Post 854 and American Legion Post 20.
