Mary Ellen Hartmann, 78, of Fremont, formerly of Cedar Bluffs, died Saturday, April 3, 2010, at her home in Fremont.

She was born April 12, 1931, in Cedar Bluffs to William and Mary (Boyle) Nick. She grew up in Cedar Bluffs and was a graduate of Cedar Bluffs High School. She received her teaching certificate from Midland Lutheran College in Fremont. She taught at rural schools in Saunders County. She also worked at Mutual of Omaha and the former Western Electric in Omaha, and most recently at Valley Products in Valley.

She married Donald V. Hartmann on Jan. 13, 1951, in Oceanside, Calif. He died July 23, 1982.

She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Fremont and a former member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Cedar Bluffs. She loved Irish music, playing her favorite numbers at Keno (21-22-23) and most of all Husker football with Notre Dame a close second.

Survivors include: four daughters, Teresa Frazier of Lincoln, Ellen Hartmann of Fremont, Rita Phillips of Anderson, Ind., and Sharon Neill (and husband, Tim) of Fremont; three sons, David Hartmann of Fremont, Dan Hartmann (and wife, Susie) of North Bend and Dallas Hartmann of Fremont; four brothers, Jerry Nick (and wife, Joyce) of Cedar Bluffs, Lynn Nick (and wife, Wilma) of Brighton, Colo., James Nick of Omaha and Ronald Nick of Fremont; three sisters, Margaret Van Ness of Aurora, Colo., Barbara Wesely of Fremont and Rita Sindelar (and husband, Al) of Fremont; numerous nieces and nephews; 10 grandchildren, Jennifer, Kevin, Rick, Sierra, Jeff, Jake, Caleb, Kasey, Emily and Jeremy; and two great-grandchildren, Austin and Jaden.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Fred Nick; and three sisters, Judith Nick, Catherine "Claire" Kern and Elizabeth "Anne" Vopalensky.

The funeral Mass was this morning at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Cedar Bluffs with the Rev. Matthew Vandewalle officiating. Burial was in Little Flower of Jesus Cemetery near Leshara.
