WATERLOO — Ruth Elaine Sullivan, 85 years, of Waterloo died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2018, at Dunklau Gardens in Fremont. Ruth was born Nov. 3, 1932, at Omaha to William and Mildred (Deats) Hartmann.
She grew up in Omaha and was a graduate of Tech High School in Omaha. Ruth married Earl Sullivan on Oct. 11, 1952, in Sidney, Iowa. The couple moved to Millard in 1963 and then to Waterloo in 1969. In 1979, they moved to an acreage between Waterloo and Valley. Her husband preceded her in death on June 28, 1994. She was employed at Wal-Mart, retiring in 2012.
Ruth bowled on several bowling leagues, enjoyed Husker football, swimming, doing crafts with her daughter. She loved being on the acreage and being outside, working at Wal-Mart part time in her 70s ——“she liked helping old people.”
She is survived by son, Earl Jr. “BE” (Jennifer) Sullivan of Omaha; daughter, Patricia “Patty” (Terry) Hussey of Fontanelle; sisters, Barbara (Vernon) Allen of Lehigh Acres, Florida, and Bonnie (Jeff Travis) Keegan of Sarasota, Florida; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 15, at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. The Rev. Scott Jensen will officiate. Closed casket visitation with family receiving friends from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Burial will be at 2:45 p.m. on Monday at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Omaha.
Memorials may be designated to the family for a memorial yet to be determined.
