Vaughn E. Hazen, age 93, of Fremont passed away Thursday, Feb. 22, 2018, at Fremont Health surrounded by his family.
Vaughn was a loving dad, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Preceded in death by parents, Bessie and John; brothers, Jack and Robert; loving wife, Dorothy (57 years); and great-grandchildren, Iva and Mark Thompson. Survived by sons, Gage (Andrea) and Cody of Arizona; grandchildren, Matt (Paula) Hazen, Jeff (Angie) Hazen, Sara (Josh) Thompson, Tifin (John) Keenan of Arizona, Tatum (Art) Miller of Arizona; great-grandchildren, Jackson, Ella, Reid Hazen, Cole and Luke Hazen, Hank and Wyatt Thompson, and Emma Miller; many nieces, nephews and good friends.
Vaughn attended North High School and the University of Nebraska at Omaha. He was in the Naval Reserve after WWII. His passion was baseball and he played semi-pro baseball seven years for the St. Louis Cardinal organization. He was inducted into the Nebraska Baseball Hall of Fame in 1985. He and Dorothy moved to Fremont in 1950 where he played for the Fremont Nighthawk organization. He owned Hazen Realty for 33 years and after retiring, he was elected to the Dodge County Register of Deeds for six years.
Vaughn enjoyed hunting, all outdoor activities, gardening, reading and painting. His beautiful paintings are displayed in the homes of many friends and family. He and Dorothy attended as many grandchildren events as possible and in his later years, he loved watching the great-grandchildren as able.

A Celebration of Life to honor Vaughn will be held March 24 from 4-7 p.m. at the Christensen Family YMCA Lodge, 3402 W. Military Ave., Fremont.
