A Valley man has been ordered to pay nearly $190,000 in restitution for identity theft and Social Security fraud.

Mickey Lee Tucker, 53, also was sentenced to serve 1 year in prison, U.S. Attorney Deborah R. Gilg announced Friday.

Tucker was accused of using his brother’s Social Security number to gain employment beginning in May 1998. At the time, Tucker was receiving disability benefits and state welfare benefits under his own Social Security number.

Authorities said Tucker received $116,284 in disability payments and $73,118 in welfare benefits before an investigation by the Office of Inspector General of the Social Security Administration caught the thefts.
