SILVIS, Ill. – Paced by Garret Giesselmann’s seventh-place finish, Midland University’s men’s golf team finished ninth at the TPC Deere Run Invitational recently.
The Warriors finished with a two-day total of 599.
Taylor University won the championship in the 23-team field with a 576.
“We were happy with our finish at Deere Run,” MU coach Nick Swaney said. “A lot of very good teams were there, and we competed well against them."
Giesselmann, a Fremont High School graduate, shot a 2-over-par 144 to tie with four other golfers for seventh place.
“It was great to see Garret have a top-10 finish,” Swaney said. “He’s coming off his second knee surgery and is getting back to full strength. He hit the ball incredibly well all week, and all of our guys fought hard for the team this week.”
Joe Vest of MU was 17th with a 147. Hunter Giesselmann shot 149 while Luke Janning (159) and Garrett Josten (170) also competed for the Warriors.
Midland will compete April 9-10 at the Northwestern Match Play Event in Orange City, Iowa.
