OTTAWA, Kan. – Midland University overcame snow flurries and Ottawa University on Sunday in women’s lacrosse.

The Lady Warriors faced a two-goal deficit with about seven minutes to play, but rallied for an 11-10 victory in the challenging weather.

The win improves the Lady Warriors to 3-5 overall, including 2-3 in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference. Ottawa falls to 5-5 overall and 3-2 in the conference.

Emma Guerra had 11 saves in net for the Warriors. She stopped a pair of free position shots in the final 10 seconds to seal the win for Midland.

Offensively, Riley Yanek led the way with three goals on five shot attempts. Teammates Jada Jordan, Megan Collins, and Masey Jay all added two goals apiece.

A Jay goal tied it at 10 before Yanek scored the game-winner with three minutes remaining.

Collins had nine shot attempts with eight on goal while Jay had eight attempts with five on target. As a team, Midland outshot Ottawa 34-32 with a 25-21 advantage of shots on goal.

The Lady Warriors were going against a familiar face on the opposing sideline. Ottawa coach Samantha Aucoin coached the Lady Warriors before taking the job with the Braves in early December.

Midland will host No. 10 Benedictine at 1 Saturday afternoon at Heedum Field. The Lady Warriors will also host the University of Dallas as noon Sunday. MU will honor its senior class prior to Sunday’s game.
