Midland University recently split a Great Plains Athletic Conference doubleheader with Dordt at Moller Field.
The Warriors, 18-13 overall and 6-4 in the league, defeated the Defenders 13-9 in 12 innings and dropped the second game 14-9.
Bailey Bliss of Midland hit a solo home run in the seventh to tie the opener at 9. It remained that way until the 12th.
Singles by by Billy Brand and Andrew Brooks and a walk to Nolan Luzzi loaded the bases. Justin Trevino followed with a sacrifice fly to put MU, playing as the visitors, up by one.
Tanner Bos singled in a run while James Kaiser later drew a bases-loaded walk. Buddy Balsino drove in the final run with a sacrifice fly.
Brand started the game at shortstop, but pitched three scoreless innings of relief for the win. He struck out seven, walked one and allowed two hits. Fremonter Torrey Escamilla worked four innings of scoreless relief. He allowed two hits, no walks and struck out four.
Brand worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the 11th by striking out Colton Van Otterloo and Zach Fowler — the No. 3 and 4 hitters for the Defenders.
Bos had a two-run double and Balsino added a run-scoring double in the top of the first to stake MU to a 3-0 lead in the second game.
Van Otterloo gained some revenge, however, in the nightcap as he went 3-for-3 with nine RBI. He belted a grand slam in the second off Daylon Owens, added a three-run shot in the fourth off of Tyler Chung and contributed a two-run double in the fifth off of Hayden Bailey.
Owens suffered the loss as he allowed 10 runs (seven earned) in three innings of work.
Bos had two hits and three RBI for the Warriors. Brooks and Edgar Gallardo hit home runs in the loss.
The Warriors will face Mount Marty in a doubleheader at 4 Tuesday afternoon in Yankton, S.D.
