WAYNE — Jackson Borgmann scored 19 points to help Arlington knock Gordon-Rushville from the unbeaten ranks Thursday night in the Great Northeast Nebraska Shootout.

Zach O’Flaherty added nine points for the Eagles, who prevailed 54-49 in the first round of the tournament. Sophomore Tanner Pittman contributed eight points.

The Mustangs falls to 7-1 while the Eagles improve to 3-5.

In another first-round game, West Point-Beemer broke open a close game with a 26-2 second-quarter scoring run to defeat Norfolk Catholic 55-31.

The Cadets led 9-8 after one quarter, but increasing the deficit to 25 points at halftime.

Blake Anderson led a balanced attack for the Cadets with 11 points. Chase Streeter added 10 points and three rebounds while Hunter Pilakowski and Tate Ernesti added seven points apiece.

Gavin Case distributed three assists while Austin Streeter grabbed a team-best seven rebounds.

The Arlington girls defeated Laurel-Concord-Coleridge 52-35 as Maggie Schmidt had 20 points. Milee Young contributed 11.

The West Point-Beemer girls suffered a 53-46 loss to Norfolk Catholic. Taylor Gilsdorf led Catholic with 12 points. Brittney Hinkel had 18 and Sidney Swanson added 12 for the Cadets.
