WEST POINT — Fremont Bergan and West Point Guardian Angels Central Catholic played on even terms for one half on Saturday night.

Then Grant Frickenstein took over.

The junior scored scored 20 of his 27 points in the second half to help the Knights defeat the Bluejays 51-42. The win snaps an eight-game losing streak and improves Bergan’s record to 10-11 heading into Friday night’s regular-season finale at West Point-Beemer.

GACC used five points from Landon Stalp in the first quarter to break to a 14-8 lead. Dylan Kucera and Frickenstein had five apiece in the second quarter to help the Knights tie it at halftime.

Frickenstein had 10 points and teammate Dre Vance added a 3-point basket to spark the Knights to a 34-32 lead entering the final quarter.

Frickenstein added 10 more in the fourth quarter. He combined with Vance to connect on 9 of 11 free throws in the final eight minutes.

Vance finished with 13 points for the Knights.

Jared Minnick led a balanced attack for GACC with 10 points. Casey Doernemann added nine while Bryant Rief contributed eight.

The Bluejays did win the junior varsity game 42-28. Ben Ulrich led GACC with 12 points. Thunder Myers had eight for Bergan while Riley Lindberg contributed six.

On Friday, Bergan lost 38-16 to Wahoo Neumann in a three-quarters game.

AJ Walter led the Knights with five points while Barry Field contributed four.
