Grant Frickenstein and Dre Vance combined for 46 points as Fremont Bergan won its opener 71-35 over Omaha Christian Academy on Friday night.
Frickenstein had 27 points while Vance added 19. The Knights play Saturday at Douglas County West.
“Grant is a guy who is a slasher, but he can also hit the 3,” Bergan assistant coach Doug Moore said in a postgame radio show. “He can be a dangerous player if he can consistently hit the 3. If guys come out to guard him, he can take it to the rim and finish.”
Vance also did his share of damage.
“Dre is a heady ballplayer,” Moore said. “He can also hit the 3 and is a smooth player.”
The Knights trailed 4-0 early, but Frickenstein sparked a 15-3 run and Bergan never trailed the rest of the way.
“We did a good job on the defensive end and got some steals with our press,” Moore said. “We had a little trouble in the first half finishing in the lane. We got out of control a little bit, but in the second half we did a better job of finishing strong or drawing fouls.”
Dylan Kucera added nine points for the Knights.
Christian Maas and Elyon Gines had eight points apiece. Noah Krehbiel added seven points.
