VALLEY — Fremont Bergan improved to 2-0 Saturday afternoon with a 59-33 win over Douglas County West in girls’ basketball.
Haley Kempf and Mackenzie Peitzmeier combined for 29 points to lead the Lady Knights. Kempf finished with 15 while Peitzmeier added 14. Allison Dieckmann chipped in seven.
The Lady Knights broke to a 17-9 first-quarter lead and stretched the advantage to 30-19 at halftime.
Bergan opened the season with a home win Friday night over Omaha Christian Academy.
“Our legs were a little weary from the night before and we failed to make a shot outside the 3-point line,” Bergan coach Nate Pribnow said. “By those measures, it wasn’t the prettiest of games that we’ve played.”
Despite the Lady Knights not shooting from the perimeter as well as they normally do, Pribnow said many players contributed to the win.
“We have had very balanced scoring in our first two games,” he said. “I think that is something we can continue to expect as the season goes on. Someone is usually going to step up and score in double digits, but having a group of girls all around the four- to seven-point range is very good to see.”
Reagan Glock led the Falcons with 12 points and six rebounds. Rachel MacDonald had 10 points and three steals. Josie Vieth finished with six points and four rebounds.
The Lady Knights will host Omaha Brownell-Talbot at 6:30 Friday night before traveling to David City Aquinas on Saturday.
“We will need to get in better shape as the season goes on as this won’t be the only time that we have to play back-to-back days,” Pribnow said.
