LINCOLN — Fremont High School stayed perfect on Tuesday night in the dual portion of its wrestling season.
The Tigers beat fellow Heartland Athletic Conference squad Lincoln Southeast 40-28. The win improves FHS to 5-0 in duals.
“Going into this, we knew that it was going to be a battle,” Fremont coach Ben Wilcox said. “We knew that Southeast matched up well against us and having two varsity wrestlers out of the lineup didn’t help our chances of securing victory. However, our guys are resilient and when they are faced with a tough task, they find a way to overcome.”
After 12 matches, the dual was tied at 28, but Noah Molzahn and Cody Carlson earned pins to secure the victory.
“Adversity is something we have dealt with over the last three weeks and what makes this group special is that they will not break when unexpected things happen,” Wilcox said.
Molzahn pinned Taye Hill in 5:26 of their match at 126 pounds. Carlson followed that with a pin in 4:20 of Preston Rauner.
Jacob Wimer and Tommy Wentz started the Tigers off with a pair of victories via decisions. Wimer beat Jose Hinz 9-5 at 138 while Wentz defeated Austin Filliez 5-0.
Omar Garibo gave the Tigers their first pin of the night when he won by fall in :53 over Kevin Tran in their 182-pound match. At 285, Trevin Escamilla of the Tigers pinned Dawson Effle in 1:06.
The Tigers won the final four matches of the dual, starting with Carlos Ahumada. He pinned Ethan Batterton in 1:26 at 113. Cody Fielder followed that with a 15-5 major decision over Arman Erickson at 120.
That set the stage for Molzahn and Carlson.
The Tigers return to action Saturday morning when they host the Heartland Athletic Conference Tournament in the Al Bahe Gymnasium. Competition will begin at 9:30.
