Fremont High School picked up four wins in singles on Tuesday afternoon to edge Millard South 5-4 in a boys tennis dual.
“While this dual ended up being a little closer than I would have liked, I’m proud of how the guys fought from start to finish,” Fremont coach Justin Bigsby said. “Millard South is a very scrappy team so I knew we’d have our work cut out for us. Give credit to our guys because no one threw in the towel.”
Justin Pemberton rallied for a win at No. 4 singles. He trailed Drew Plum 7-4, but forced a tiebreaker before closing out a 9-8 (6) victory.
“Justin came up with the most likely his best match of the season, thus far,” Bigsby said. “That match saved the dual for us and gave us some breathing room going into the doubles.”
Freshman Alex Bigsby of the Tigers beat Cameron Crump 8-1 at No. 1 singles. Austin Callahan breezed to an 8-0 win at No. 3 while Brennan Callahan downed Ethan Warner 8-6 at No. 5.
Austin and Brennan Callahan picked up an 8-4 win over Dylan DeVries and Ethan Warner 8-4 at No. 1 doubles.
“Life is going to get tougher for us come Thursday with Lincoln Southwest and Lincoln North Star here, but our players should be feeling confident going into that triangular,” Bigsby said.
The meet with the Tigers, Silver Hawks and Navigators is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. On Monday, FHS travels to the Koch Tennis Center in Omaha to compete in the Papillion-La Vista Invitational.
