OMAHA — Fremont High School finished third on Saturday in the Gold Division of the Gradoville Volleyball Invitational at Omaha Bryan.
“We made some real positive steps,” said Fremont coach Cindy Kostek, whose team moved to 3-7 on the season. “The girls are working very hard. We just need to work on closing out matches.”
The Tigers, who won two matches in the tournament on Friday, defeated Omaha South 25-12, 25-19 on Saturday.
Junior Riley Hoerath had seven kills while senior Elizabeth Greunke added five kills, three ace serves and a block. Chelsi Judds-Krenk add five kills, four aces and a block.
Madi Moore had 10 digs while Rylee Williams added nine.
Taylor Pemberton had 16 assists as the Tigers switched from a 5-1 to a 6-2 offensive attack.
Lincoln High downed the Tigers 25-21, 25-16.
“Our serve receive broke down and we couldn’t run our offense,” Kostek said. “They also had a big blocker than shut us down a few times and then we got a little timid.”
Hoerath had five kills and two blocks to lead the Tigers.
Bellevue East downed the Tigers 20-25, 25-21, 25-21 in the Gold semifinals.
Hoerath finished with 11 kills and two blocks. Greunke had seven kills and a block. Williams contributed 16 digs and two aces.
Freshman Hannah Wilson had 16 set assists, three kills, an ace block and an ace serve.
The Tigers will host Grand Island at 6:30 Tuesday night.
