Five Fremont Boxing Club members will be showcasing their skills at a smoker Saturday night at Christensen Field.

Rob Mumm, president and head coach of the club, said 15 fights are scheduled for the night. Doors open at 6 with fights scheduled to begin at 7. The event was originally scheduled this summer, but was cancelled due to a snafu with the athletic commission.

"That won't happen this time," Mumm said. "We're ready to go."

Mumm is one of the fighters with Fremont ties scheduled to compete. He will fight Juan Maxwell of Omaha in a super heavyweight bout. It will be Mumm's first bout in 14 years.

"I'm very excited about it," he said.

Other FBC senior fights set to compete are: Edel Gomez at light heavyweight, Juan Garcia and 160 and Ivan Garcia at 150, Mumm said. Edgar Garcia will have a junior 120-pound bout.

Mumm said it will be a good event for Fremont.

"We're making it more of a MMA (mixed martial arts) kind of event," he said. "We'll have ring girls and also music bringing the fighters into the ring. It will be a fun night."

Mumm said several local businesses have stepped up to help the club with the event, including Buddy's Rentals.

"We really appreciate all of the help for the club," he said.
