Fremonter John Sajevic advanced to the semifinals of the Nebraska Senior Match Play Championship on Tuesday afternoon.

Playing on his home course, the Fremont Golf Club, the third-seeded Sajevic, defeated sixth-seeded Michael Root of Omaha 4 and 3 in the quarterfinals. Sajevic made five birdies in just 15 holes against Root.

In the round of 16, Sajevic won by forfeit over Murray Krambeer of Bellevue.

Sajevic will now play second-seeded Skip Gist of Omaha on Wednesday morning. Gist opened with a 3 and 1 win over Gregg Vonnahme of Omaha and then downed Carl Johnson of Omaha 3 and 1.

Johnson had advanced with a 3 and 1 win over Charlie Doeden of Valley.

The other semifinal will feature ninth-seeded Mike Krumland of Columbus and No. 9 Steven Ritzman of Elkhorn.

Krumland beat Smokey Cornelius of Cozad 4 and 2 in the opening round before edging Jay Muller of Omaha 1-up.

Ritzman knocked off Tim Marchese of Grand Island 3 and 1 in the first round and then went 19 holes to down 16th-seeded Dennis Batliner of Omaha.
