The Fremont Bowling Club recently completed the 2017-18 season with its annual scholarship tournament at 30 Bowl.

There were 22 club members entered in the tournament. After three games of qualifying, the top eight bowled single-elimination, stairstep matches to find a winner. Diego Marez outlasted Steve Bowling Jr. to win this year’s event.

Joining Marez and Bowling Jr. as qualifiers were: Natalie Stinemates, Hannah Bowling, Nate Stinemates, Cooper Phillips, Cole Macaluso and Peyton Styskal.

Bowling Jr. recorded the high handicap game of 268 and the high handicap series of 786.

Macaluso had the high scratch series at 723. Phillips had the high game scratch of 269.

The club also honored 11 bowlers that earned a letter this season. They include: Lexus Mueller, Hailey Sickels, Marylynn Lewis, Katelyn Hill and Hannah Bates for the women. For the men, honorees were Cooper Phillips, Garrett Hill, Stinemates, Macaluso, Chris Emmons and Camden McKenzie.

The club’s varsity men included five freshmen and one sophomore, but being young didn’t slow them down. They won three tournaments, including federation districts. They also finished third in state at the federation and club level.

The varsity women ended up winning a state title earlier in the year on the federation side. They also had multiple second-place finishes at the club level.

The junior varsity men and women’s teams are also both very young, but they showed solid improvement throughout the season and have bright futures. Bowlers that participated on the JV teams included: Natalie Stinemates, Hannah Bowling, Kailynn Valentine and Kayleigh McKenzie for the girls. Competing for the boys were: Diego Marez, Dario Marez, Isaac Hasemann, Adam Bergeron, Styskal and Bowling Jr.

The club is opened to anyone from grades 3-12. Bowlers can earn scholarships for college.

Mark McKenzie, Al Phillips and Terry Synovec coach the varsity men. Trevor Mueller coaches the varsity women while Tammy McKenzie and Michele Synovec coach the JV girls. Steve Bowling Sr. serves as the JV boys coach.

The club is also grateful for the support of the Synovecs and 30 Bowl.
