With Christmas right around the corner several local businesses are opening their doors and inviting the public to join them in kicking off the holiday season.

Some businesses have already begun festivities including a variety of businesses in downtown Fremont that are participating in the annual Christmas Market event which began Thursday and continues through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Christmas Market features food, music, and shopping downtown at participating businesses Pickens, Sampters, Park Avenue, The Gardener, Fia & Belle, Junktion, Country Tradition’s, Nancy’s Boutique, Milady Coffeehouse, Lou’s Sporting Goods, Wise Olde Owl, and Yankee Peddler West.

Another open house event that will continue on Saturday as the Fremont Opera House continues its two day event called “Our Little Christmas Festival and Open House.”

On Saturday, festivities begin with the sixth grade honor choir performing at 11 a.m. under the direction of MaryBeth Hilbers. The Yanike Singers perform at 11:45 a.m. with Bob Yanike as director.

Mark Harman will direct the Fremont High School Chorale starting at 12:30 p.m. Jennifer Grenier is directing the Fremont Public Schools Middle School Choir at 1:15 p.m.

A production of “A Charlie Brown Christmas” starts at 2 p.m. and the Happy Players perform at 3 p.m.

Guests may come and go as they please for the $5 donation, which allows visitors to see the show, hear the musical groups and have cider and cookies.

Event proceeds will go toward everyday expenses at the opera house.

Also on Saturday will be Nye Square’s Holiday Open House which will be held at the retirement community from 1-3 p.m.

The event includes a “Best Decorated Tree” contest that features more than 15 Christmas trees decorated by community businesses. There will also be cookies and refreshments, Santa, and a bell choir performance by Nye Square residents.

Later this month Fremont Health will open their doors for their Annual Holiday Open House which usually brings a crowd of 400-500 people and features fun for the entire family.

At the open house, Santa will make an appearance and will be taking photos and listening to Christmas wish lists of local children. There will also be live reindeer out on the lawn, which will also be available for photos.

The event will also include refreshments and musical entertainment and is being held on Tuesday, December 19th from 5-7 p.m.
