Eight First State Bank & Trust Company employee promotions were approved at the recent annual meeting of the First State Bank and Trust Co. Board of Directors: Chuck Johannsen to president/CEO, Nick Vrba to executive vice president and secretary to the board of directors, Pam England to vice president – compliance & risk management, Taylor Jeppesen to vice president – lending, Jessica Fickbohm to assistant vice president – relationship manager, Melissa Hapke to assistant vice president – trust officer, Ashley Morrison to assistant vice president – residential real estate lending and Stacy Gibney to senior credit analyst.
Johannsen came to the bank in 1988 as a consumer loan manager. He was named assistant vice president-consumer Lending & security officer, vice president-lending and security officer and executive officer, executive vice president and was named president in 2008.
Johannsen earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Kearney State College. He has graduated from the Graduate School of Banking in Colorado, National Commercial Lending School, Advanced Bank Management Forum at the Colorado School of Banking, Nebraska Banker’s Association Leadership program and Nebraska Bankers Association/Kansas Bankers Association (NBA/KBA) Intermediate School of Banking.
Johannsen serves on the board of the Methodist Fremont Health Foundation and the Greater Fremont Development Council. He is a past chairman of the Fremont Area Chamber of Commerce, Fremont Area United Way, Greater Fremont Development Council and past district chairman of the Goldenrod Division of Boy Scouts. On the state level, Johannsen has served on the Nebraska Bankers Association Education Council. In 2017, Johannsen was honored by the Fremont Area Chamber of Commerce with the Compass Leadership Award. Johannsen and his wife, Caryl, have three children and he is a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.
Vrba has been with First State since 2002. In this role, he will continue to provide leadership to the lending and administrative areas of the bank as well as take on the role of secretary of the board of directors. He has served the bank as head teller and lobby supervisor, assistant loan officer – review, assistant vice president—loan & loan review officer, vice president – loans, administration and review, senior vice president-senior lender and member of the executive team.
Vrba is a graduate of the Graduate School of Banking in Colorado, the NBA/KBA Commercial Lending School, the NBA/KBA Graduate Commercial Lending School and the Nebraska Bankers Association Leadership Program. Vrba also obtained certificates of completion from the ICBA in Loan Review Policy and Procedures. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Midland University.
Vrba currently serves as chairman of the board of the Fremont Area United Way and is a board member for the Fremont Area Chamber of Commerce. He is past president of the Fremont Area Habitat for Humanity and the Midland University Alumni Association. He is also a member of the NBA/KBA Advanced Schools of Banking Committee. Vrba and his wife, Tracey, have three daughters and are members of First Lutheran Church.
England has been with First State since 1999. She started as a part-time floating teller. She then went to the loan processing area and was later named the compliance officer and loan staff supervisor. In 2014, she was promoted to assistant vice president-compliance officer.
England holds an Associate of Science degree from Black Hawk College. She graduated from the NBA/KBA School of Banking Compliance School. She is a Leadership Fremont graduate, serves as chair of the Fremont Area Chamber of Commerce Youth Leadership Academy, and volunteers as a Girl Scout leader. In 2016, England was honored by the Fremont Area Chamber of Commerce with the Compass Leadership Award. England and her husband, Jay, have four children and are members of First Lutheran Church.
Jeppesen has been with First State Bank & Trust Co. since 2013. He started as a credit analyst/lender and was promoted to AVP-Lending in 2016. He is a graduate of Midland University with a degree in accounting and has a Master of Business Administration from Wayne State College. He is also a graduate of the NBA/KBA Schools of Banking Commercial Lending School, ABA Advanced Commercial Lending School, and is currently attending the Graduate School of Banking in Colorado.
Jeppesen is treasurer of the Fremont Midland Entertainment Series Board and a graduate of Leadership Fremont. Jeppesen and his wife, Maddie, have three children and are members of Sinai Lutheran Church.
Fickbohm joined First State in 2015 as a business/retail relationship consultant. In 2018, her title was changed to relationship manager. She is a graduate of Gustavus Adolphus College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication Studies. She is a graduate of Leadership Fremont, the U.S. Chamber Institute for Organization Management, and the NBA/KBA Relationship & Business Development School. She is a graduate of the bank’s Employee Leadership Development Program.
Fickbohm is the president of the Jefferson House Advisory Board and serves on the Methodist Fremont Health Foundation Derby Committee. Fickbohm and her husband, Matt, have two children.
Hapke joined First State in 1997 as a floating teller. She then moved to the loan department as a loan processor and then the newly formed trust department in 2001 as the secretary/receptionist. In 2010 she was promoted to assistant trust officer. She is a graduate of the bank’s Employee Leadership Development Program.
Hapke attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and has an Associates in Business from Southeast Community College. She is a graduate of the NBA/KBA Advanced Trust Administration School, and Advanced Trust Operations School. She is a graduate of Leadership Fremont and has served as treasurer of the Archbishop Bergan Elementary School Parent Knights, president of the Archbishop Bergan Booster Club, and serves on the Archbishop Bergan Knight Event fundraiser committee. She has also coached youth volleyball and softball. Hapke and her husband, Brian, have two daughters, and she is a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.
Morrison came to the bank in 2015 as a mortgage lending specialist. She has over 10 years of experience in the banking/insurance area. She is a graduate of the bank’s Employee Leadership Development Program.
Morrison is a graduate of Leadership Fremont and the bank’s representative to the Fremont Board of Realtors. Morrison and her husband, John, have four children and are members of Stonebridge Christian Church.
Gibney joined First State in 2015 in the role of credit analyst. She has over 20 years of accounting and banking experience. Gibney attended Metropolitan Community College where she studied business finance. She is a graduate of the NBA/KBA Schools of Banking – Commercial Lending. Gibney serves as treasurer of the Fremont Chapter of Ducks Unlimited, Keep Fremont Beautiful and the Friends of Fremont Area Parks. She is a member of the current Leadership Fremont class and a graduate of the bank’s Employee Leadership Development Program.
Gibney and her husband, John, have one son and are members of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.
