EyeCare Specialties has announced that Jacob Nordhues, O.D., has joined the EyeCare Specialties Fremont clinic full time. Nordhues has been providing optometry services in Fremont on a part-time basis since January 2018.
Nordhues received his Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2013, and went on to attain his Doctor of Optometry from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee, in 2017. He provides comprehensive eye care to all ages, including adult and pediatric primary care eye examinations, contact lens fittings, and advanced care of ocular diseases. He has a special interest in ensuring students of all ages have the optimal vision and ocular coordination needed for success in the classroom.
During Nordhues' externships, he received specialized training in ocular disease, including glaucoma, macular degeneration, and dry-eye treatment. During his medical training in Tennessee, Nordhues participated in weekly vision screenings at elementary schools utilizing chair skills and retinoscopy, as well as volunteered for a Remote Area Medical (RAM) trip where doctors and students offered free vision and ocular health examinations to under-served and uninsured patients. He also was a member of Student Volunteers in Optometric Service to Humanity (SVOSH), through which he provided exams and services to patients in Merida, Mexico.
