Area residents with a taste for Thai food need not buy a plane ticket to the southeast Asian country—instead, they can get their fix of fresh, spicy cuisine at the corner of 5th and D Street in Fremont.

After housing local favorite Savannakhet Asian Grill for several years, the quaint space tucked into Downtown Fremont is now home to a new restaurant called Thai By Thai.

Since opening in July 2018, the owners and operators of Thai By Thai have been serving up traditional Thai favorites to hungry Fremonters looking for a little spice.

“People really seem to enjoy our food,” Apple Chonchuenchob, who runs Thai By Thai with her husband Sakorn Kaenbutdee, said.

According to Chonchuenchob, since opening the restaurant customers have been drawn to Thai staples like yellow curry and drunken noodles.

“Those have definitely been the favorites so far,” she said.

Thai By Thai is Chonchuenchob and Kaenbutdee’s first foray into owning and operating their own restaurant—but both Thailand natives have spent years working in kitchens and in the service industry.

The couple moved to Fremont from Chicago around two years ago, and worked at Ninja Steak & Sushi before deciding to run their own restaurant last year.

In just over a half-year in business, the couple has been making a name for themselves locally with their tasty Thai food and other Asian offerings.

Reviews on the restaurant’s Facebook page speak to customers’ satisfaction with everything from service, atmosphere, and most importantly, the food.

“Excellent food and nice staff,” one poster commented.

“Extremely delicious!,” exclaimed another.

The one thing you can’t find on Thai By Thai’s Facebook page is a negative review.

“The community has really been great,” Chonchuenchob said.

Customers can enjoy a variety of dishes prepared by Kaenbutdee, who has spent over a decade working as a cook and chef. Including his specials—peanut curry, special Asian eggplant, and mango curry.

The restaurant also serves up a variety of traditional Thai noodle dishes, curries, and fried rice as well as sushi, soups, and salads.

While many Thai restaurants gauge their spiciness levels on a scale of 1-10, Thai By Thai does so with three categories: mild (a tiny feeling of hotness), medium (the perfect touch for chili lovers) and hot (a burning sensation for the daring and brave).

Thai By Thai is open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., as well as Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Customers can also order online, or just check out the menu, at Carry out orders can also be made by calling 402-816-4113.
