PLATTSMOUTH – Cass County voters went to election sites Tuesday to cast primary ballots in several races.
Cass County Election Commissioner Nancy Josoff said there were 4,332 ballots cast during the day. There are 17,553 registered voters in Cass County. That resulted in a primary election voter turnout of 24.68 percent.
Incumbent Deb Fischer won the local Republican primary for a seat in the United States Senate with 2,017 votes (78.06 percent). Todd Watson (288), Jack Heidel (121), Jeffrey Lynn Stein (94) and Dennis Macek (58) also received votes in Cass County.
Four candidates took part in the Democratic primary for U.S. Senate. Jane Raybould received the most Cass County votes with 701. Chris Janicek (247), Frank Svoboda (198) and Larry Marvin (48) also received local votes.
Incumbent Jeff Fortenberry received nearly all of the Cass County votes in the Republican primary for the U.S. House of Representatives. He collected 2,449 votes (98.71 percent). There were 32 write-in votes.
Jessica McClure topped Dennis Crawford in the local Democratic primary for the U.S. House. McClure received 778 votes in the county and Crawford received 390.
Incumbent Pete Ricketts also captured a majority of votes in the Republican primary for governor with 2,139 (83.16 percent). Krystal Gabel had 429 votes.
Bob Krist finished with the most Cass County votes in the Democratic primary for governor. He finished with 666 local votes. Vanessa Gayle Ward (375) and Tyler Davis (154) also received Cass County votes for governor.
Ron Nolte and Dan Watermeier were involved in a close local Republican primary race for public service commissioner. Nolte received 982 votes in Cass County and Watermeier received 950. Scott Smathers received 274 local votes.
Christa Yoakum and John Atkeison were involved in the Democratic primary race for public service commissioner. Yoakum received 789 votes and Atkeison had 242 votes.
Incumbent Gerri Draper won the Republican primary for Cass County Clerk over challenger James Gruber. Draper received 1,254 votes and Gruber received 900 votes.
Challenger Laura Pohlmeier defeated incumbent David Jordan in the Republican primary for Cass County Register of Deeds. Pohlmeier secured 1,328 votes in Cass County and Jordan received 946.
Incumbent Janet McCartney won the primary for her seat on the Cass County Board of Commissioners over challenger Jim Engelkemier. McCartney received 434 votes and Engelkemier received 199 votes.
Incumbent Robert Clements received the most Cass County votes in the primary for the District 2 seat in the Nebraska Legislature. Clements received 2,011 votes. Susan D. Lorence (1,392 votes) also advanced to this fall’s general election. James Bond (491) finished third in the primary race.
Fourteen candidates received votes in the primary for the Plattsmouth Board of Education. The top eight advanced to the general election.
Cory Wehrbein (959), Bob Fuller (580), Max Muller (576), Steve Barr (554), Chris Smith (465), Heather Weaver (457), Tabitha Foster (406), Bridgett Miller (368), Randy Winters (354), Julie Adams (345), Joe Burgert (307), Andy Miller (168), Steve Villamonte Sr. (152) and Rich Dreesman (146) received votes.
