CONESTOGA – Four Conestoga students were injured Thursday morning during a car accident near the Conestoga Junior/Senior High School campus.
Cass County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Murray Rescue members responded to the accident scene at 7:37 a.m. They discovered a three-vehicle accident had taken place at the intersection of Highway 1 and 42nd Street. The intersection leads to the entrance of the CHS campus.
CCSO deputies said their investigation revealed Plattsmouth resident Libertee G. Lee, 16, was driving westbound on Highway 1 in a 2006 Toyota van. Deputies said Lee turned southbound onto 42nd Street into oncoming traffic.
Lee’s vehicle came into contact with a 2008 Dodge Nitro that was traveling eastbound on Highway 1. Nehawka resident Hannah Vogler, 17, was driving the car. There were three passengers in Vogler’s vehicle. Deputies did not release names of the students traveling in the passenger seats.
Deputies said the collision caused Lee’s van to strike a 2005 Chrysler Pacifica driven by Ronald Bertsch, 72. Bertsch had been waiting to turn into the eastbound traffic lane on Highway 1 at the time.
The accident totaled both the Toyota and Dodge vehicles. Deputies said Bertsch’s vehicle received minor damage to its front end.
Murray Rescue transported all occupants of the Toyota and Dodge vehicles to University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha with minor injuries. Deputies said they do not believe alcohol was a factor in the accident.
