EAGLE – A southeast Nebraska man was hospitalized Wednesday after an Eagle resident accidentally struck him in a construction zone on Highway 34.

Cass County Sheriff’s Office deputies said Eagle resident Barbara G. Ross, 79, was eastbound on Highway 34 when she entered a construction zone near 190th Street. Deputies said her white 2003 Acura struck Unadilla resident Danny E. Crownover, 64, just before 11:30 a.m. Crownover is a Nebraska Department of Roads flagman who was directing traffic at the time.

After striking Crownover, the Ross vehicle then crashed into a Nebraska Department of Roads pneumatic street roller driven by Elmwood resident Andrew J. Stander, 48. Ross and Stander declined medical assistance. Eagle/Alvo Rescue transported Crownover to BryanLGH West Medical Center in Lincoln in serious condition.

Deputies said they interviewed Ross about the accident at the scene. They said she knew she was in a construction zone, but she said she did not see Crownover standing on the roadway directing traffic. Deputies issued her a citation for reckless driving.
