PLATTSMOUTH – The body of a woman who was allegedly killed by her husband was recovered in the Missouri River by Plattsmouth Friday night.
Cass County Sheriff’s Office deputies said local citizens were boating on the Missouri River and spotted the body of Bellevue resident Jennifer Norton, 32, at approximately 9 p.m. The citizens followed the body past the Plattsmouth boat dock and were able to stop it on a sandbar in the river south of Plattsmouth.
CCSO deputies, Plattsmouth Fire and Rescue, Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office deputies, Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office marine unit officers and Bellevue police officers all responded to the scene. Investigators from Sarpy County and Bellevue Police Department were able to tentatively identify the body as Jennifer Norton. They confirmed the body was hers on Saturday.
Authorities had been searching for Jennifer Norton’s body since Tuesday. Her husband, 37-year-old Brandon S. Norton, went to Sarpy County Jail that day and told authorities he had killed Jennifer Norton on Monday. He said he had killed her during a domestic argument.
Brandon Norton also told authorities he had taken Jennifer Norton’s body to a bridge along the Missouri River after he killed her. He said he had thrown the body into the water.
Brandon Norton appeared in court in Sarpy County on Thursday. He was charged with second-degree murder and ordered to be held without bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled to take place in Sarpy County Court June 26.
