Plattsmouth Missouri River Bridge will continue to be closed until signs imposing a three-ton weight limit can be made and posted.
Roger Johnson, legal counsel for Plattsmouth Bridge Commission, said it will take an estimated week for the signs to arrive. As soon as the signs are posted, vehicles weighing three tons or less will be allowed on the bridge.
Engineers from Speece Lewis Engineering in Lincoln recently inspected the bridge and found its gusset plates were rusted. “The bridge will be closed until further repairs can be made and pending some additional inspections,” Johnson said. “Hopefully that weight limit should go up.”
The bridge was renovated in 2008 and the Plattsmouth Bridge Commission was appointed to oversee its operations.
