PLATTSMOUTH – Plattsmouth students collected academic and community awards May 9 during the annual Plattsmouth High School Honors Night.
Students, parents and community members gathered in the PHS auditorium for the 90-minute event. Students from all four grades were honored for their work ethic and dedication to a variety of school and civic activities.
Four teenagers were inducted into the Plattsmouth High School Student Hall of Fame. Megan Sohl and Kira Cantrell joined the Hall of Fame for earning cumulative 4.0 grade point averages in their PHS careers. Shannon McKinley was inducted for earning both a 4.0 GPA and a Regents Scholarship to the University of Nebraska-Omaha. Griffin Gillen was inducted for earning a Regents Scholarship to the University of Nebraska-Omaha.
Twenty students were honored with the Robert T. and Dorothee Walling Wiley Memorial Scholarship. Each scholarship was worth $3,100. A selection committee chose applicants based on their GPA, citizenship qualities, aptitude for a chosen career and financial need.
Chloe Andersen, Hunter Blankman, Kyla Alexen, Cole Wagner, Megan Sohl, Haley Miller, Joseph Jamison, Brittany Wilke, Rachel Phillips, Mackenzie Miller, Macy Pape, Lexi Kuhn, Meghan O’Neill, Sierra Witherell, Evelyn Bradshaw, Charlie Knust, Maddy Porter, Breauna Marcoe, Katie Oatman and Zoey Mitchell all received the scholarship.
Three Plattsmouth students earned the Fred V. Duda Memorial Scholarship at the end of the evening. Grace Roby, Draven Ray and David Engelmeyer all received $5,000 awards. A selection committee chose recipients based on academic excellence, community service and citizenship characteristics.
