NEHAWKA – Karen Elaine Hogrefe, 78, of Nehawka, Neb., died Dec. 22, 2017 at Good Samaritan Center in Syracuse.
Karen was born July 18, 1939, in Union, the daughter of Gallant and Evelyn (Hall) Rakes. She married Marvin Hogrefe, July 7, 1959, in Auburn. Marvin died Dec. 3, 2008. Karen lived in Nehawka most of her life and she previously worked as a nurse’s aide at area nursing homes and various factories. She was a member of the Nehawka United Methodist Church and loved sewing, needle point, bowling and having coffee with her friends.
She is survived by her sons, Robin Hogrefe of Union, Rodney Hogrefe and wife Cindy of Sidney, Iowa; daughters, Tammy Peterson of Springfield and Leanna Adams of Nehawka; eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother, Gerold Rakes.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018 at West Union Cemetery near Union.
Visitations will be from 1 to 8 p.m., Friday, Jan. 5, 2018 at Marshall Funeral Chapel in Nebraska City with the family greeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m. There will be no viewing.
